Well, I'm relieved, to start with, since I've never read the book. I didn't know the things you say you didn't know. Like you, I'd prefer more of a take on his theology. Thank you for such a thorough and thoughtful review.

Hm. There may be some "shadows and symbols" meat in my seeing myself as an extreme tourist. One of my favorite meditations is from Henri Nouwen, who invites me to see myself as a tourist taking snapshots I'll share with my Father and family when I return home after death.

I thoroughly enjoyed both your presentations and our discussions on fammunities. One of the more interesting point you made is how the concept of family appeals more to the older generations, while the concept of community appeals more to the younger ones. It was fun having all generations represented that day and hearing the candid remarks about why the generations may favor particular expressions of this phenomenon.

A powerful exhortation, indeed, Bill!
I needed to be reminded of this "Amazing Truth".
For Me, Trusting in God, Alone...when everything/everyone around Me appears to be Fearful...Hopeless....Desperate....Directionless....I'm comforted to KNOW HIM...THE ONLY ONE...WHO CAN MEET MY EVERY NEED!

Thank you, Peter.

Yes, there's no way to know for sure how each insignia got assigned to each particular rank, but perhaps this might serve as a way to tell the story of the military insignia.

I like how you "go out on a limb" to explain these insignias. If it ultimately proves not to be the case, it still would be a great means of teaching people, particularly children, what each means.
